Event Overview

This two-day hands-on skills session includes orientation to use of the machines, capturing and optimizing images, and basic ob/gyn scanning technique.  Skills learning and practice include use of ob and gyn phantoms (ultrasound mannequins) and live models.  There is a low student to instructor ratio - usually no more than three learners for each instructor.  Instructors are experienced oby/gyn sonographers with many years of practice.

Objectives

By the end of the 2 day skills training session, each participant will:

1. Be familiar with orientation and scanning technique, as well as learning to correlate pelvic and ob anatomy with images seen on the ultrasound screen.

2. Apply basic machine functions used to optimize images.

3. Identify and measure pelvic and obstetric structures appropriately

4. Learn basic ultrasound safety and disinfectant technique

5. Annotate and document ultrasound exam findings

6. Distinguish normal from common abnormal findings

Target Audience

Physicians, advanced practice nurses, physician assistants, midwives, and other providers of women’s health that utilize ultrasound.
